a subject for details: Amalgam Fillings: Amalgam fillings are sometimes called silver fillings and they have been the mainstay restoration of dentistry for many years. They have taken a back seat recently because many people prefer white filling material, even in the back teeth. However, amalgam fillings are still the most long-lasting fillings that can be done on the back teeth during one chairside visit. Top TCRMs: Known as tooth colored restorative materials or composites, these fillings are used mainly on front teeth and for small fillings on back teeth. The colors of these fillings can be made to match the tooth color so closely that they cannot be detected once in place. Top Crown Treatment: Also known as a cap, crowns are tooth-like coverings placed over a prepared existing tooth. Crowns are often necessary to support the tooth when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure. Crowns are also placed to restore the appearance of your natural tooth and protect the structure of a tooth that is fractured or broken. Qualified dental laboratories use superior materials such as semiprecious or precious metals, porcelain, or a combination of metal fused to porcelain to design the crowns used at our practice. Top Bridge Treatment: A bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. Losing a permanent tooth can have dire consequences on the neighboring teeth. Because the support and chewing forces are altered, the remaining teeth may begin to shift. The opposing tooth above or below the missing tooth can begin to move up or down and out of socket, which can hasten periodontal disease and further breakdown of the tooth. Qualified dental laboratories use superior materials such as semiprecious or precious metals, porcelain, or a combination of metal fused to porcelain to design the bridges used at our dental office. Top Root Canal Therapy: Performed by a qualified endodontist, root canal therapy treats the nerve of the tooth. Root canal therapy involves replacing the diseased or dead pulp with a substance that will help preserve the function of the tooth. Root canals are often performed when a patient experiences extensive tooth decay, infection, or trauma to the tooth. Top Anesthesia: Anesthesia or premedication can be a very useful procedure to alleviate the fears of an apprehensive patient. Various medications are available to alleviate the fears and can be taken in pill form before treatment begins. Nitrous oxide also acts to modify one's anxieties and can be administered during treatment. I.V. sedation or "twilight sleep" can be used when treatment will require long periods of time in the dental chair. This type of anesthesia eliminates general awareness and reduces perception of time. Top TMJ Treatment: TMJ stands for Temporal-Mandibular Joint. This joint connects the jawbone to the skull. Problems with this joint can cause headaches, dizziness, ringing of the ears, clicking, popping, jaw pain, and joint pain. Treatments for this problem vary from soft diet and moist heat to wearing an orthotic full-time, to surgery in the most extreme classes. Top Wisdom Teeth: Wisdom teeth are normally the last teeth to appear. Also known as third molars, wisdom teeth may cause problems that do not show up until later in adult life. At that time, removal is more complicated because the bone is denser and healing is slower making the post-op duration much longer. If not removed, wisdom teeth may form cysts, cause crowding of other teeth, and may cause a gum pocket. Removal of wisdom teeth is usually done on an outpatient basis by an oral surgeon. Our office can take the necessary x-rays and make the appropriate diagnosis for removal of wisdom teeth. Top |
